Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 26: The highly anticipated District Sport Climbing Competitions of the Kashmir division are set to commence on September 28, 2024. The initial phase will cover four districts: Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, and Shopian, with competitions scheduled to take place on the 28th and 29th of September. The event is being organized under the supervision of Abdul Mohsin, Joint Secretary (Kashmir) of the Mountaineering Association of J&K, in collaboration with the Tourism Department of Kashmir. The J&K Sports Council has sponsored the district championships. Around 300 climbers from these four districts are expected to participate in the two-day event, which may extend to a third day if necessary. The competitions will be held on the 40ft prefabricated climbing wall located at TRC, Nowgam, focusing on 'lead climbing' across eight categories. These categories include Men and Women (born in 2007 or earlier), Boys and Girls (born between 2008-2010), Sub Junior Boys/Girls (born between 2011-2012), and Mini Boys/Girls (born in 2013 or later). Demonstrations in speed climbing will also be performed by senior climbers during the inauguration. The results of these district-level competitions will be used to select participants for the upcoming Union Territory Championship.
