VKMI, SUT organises seminar on Anemia Mukt Bharat | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 26: A seminar focused on combating anemia under the Anemia Mukt Bharat initiative was organized by Vichar Kranti Manch International (VKMI), Sarv Uthan Trust, and Mission Happiness. The event aimed to raise awareness about anemia, a condition characterized by a deficiency of red blood cells or hemoglobin, affecting oxygen transport in the body, particularly among women and children. The seminar was graced by the presence of Dr. Kasturi Lal Gupta, Retired Principal of Govt. Medical College Jammu and Chairman of Senior Citizens Service Support Club, as the Chief Guest. The session was presided over by Maj. Gen. S.K. Sharma, General Secretary of Senior Citizens Service Support Club, with Guests of Honour including Ashok Gupta, Vice President of VKMI, K.S. Samyal, Advisor, Kailash Langar, Social Activist, and others. The main speaker, Dr. Shreyansh Kumar Jain, State Yoga Commissioner and President of VKMI, elaborated on the causes, symptoms, and treatments for anemia through yoga and home remedies. Dr. Jain highlighted the importance of addressing this widespread health issue and explained how simple lifestyle changes can improve overall health. Causes of Anemia: Iron Deficiency: The most common cause, often due to inadequate iron intake. Vitamin Deficiency: Lack of B12 and folic acid. Chronic Diseases: Kidney disease or cancer can impact red blood cell production. Blood Loss: Heavy menstruation or trauma. Genetic Disorders: Conditions like sickle cell anemia. Malnutrition: Inadequate intake of essential nutrients. Symptoms of Anemia: Fatigue and weakness Pale or yellowish skin Shortness of breath Dizziness and lightheadedness Cold hands and feet Irregular heartbeats Cognitive issues Yoga for Anemia: Dr. Jain emphasized how yoga can improve blood circulation, oxygen levels, and general well-being. Poses such as Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand), Halasana (Plow Pose), Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend), and Shavasana (Corpse Pose) were recommended, alongside pranayama practices like Anulom Vilom and Kapalbhati. Home Remedies: Beetroot Juice: Rich in iron, helps increase hemoglobin. Spinach: An iron-rich vegetable that combats anemia. Dates and Raisins: Boost iron levels when consumed regularly. Pomegranate Juice: Increases hemoglobin. Sesame Seeds: Soaked and consumed with honey, improve iron intake. Fenugreek Leaves, Honey and Lemon, and Gooseberry with Honey were also recommended for maintaining healthy iron levels. Dietary Tips: Dr. Jain advised incorporating iron-rich foods, vitamin C-rich fruits, and avoiding caffeine near mealtimes to enhance iron absorption and improve overall health. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Aparna, MD in Essential Medicines, SMVD Naraina, Katra. In a heartfelt gesture, the 74th birthday of Dr. Ashok Gupta, President of Senior Citizens Service Support Club, was also celebrated by members of various NGOs, including Bharat Vikas Parishad and Confederation of Voluntary, Social & Charitable Organizations. The event reinforced the importance of addressing anemia through awareness, proper nutrition, yoga, and home remedies, contributing to the success of the Anemia Mukt Bharat initiative. |
