GDC Paloura celebrates World Rabies Day | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 28: Department of Veterinary Technology, Government Degree College, Paloura organized an Extension lecture on the theme "Breaking Rabies Boundaries" to mark the celebration of 18th World Rabies Day. The aim of the programme was to highlight that 'One Health' is not for a selected few but for everyone. Students of various departments participated in the lecture cum awareness programme with great enthusiasm, fervour and zeal. Dr. Sikander Shabab Khan was the spokes person of the day. He stated that Rabies is endemic in more than 150 countries in which Africa and Asia accounts for 95% of human deaths and India alone accounts for 35% of global mortality with dogs as the main host for transmission. He highlighted that this virus is transmitted via saliva of infected animals through bites, scratches, and licks. He further stated that Rabies is fatal yet it is fully preventable, and for this reason the various World Organisation's have committed to eradicate dog mediated human cases by 2030. Dr. Sikander Shabab Khan highlighted that we can break the cycle of this viral disease and successfully eradicate it by following proper preventive measures like vaccines, medicines, tools, and technologies. The awareness lecture was organised under the able guidance of the worthy Principal, Dr Kulvinder Kour, While speaking on the occasion she stated that we can protect humans by effective and timely immunization against Rabies. Additionally she impressed upon following proper pre and post exposure prophylactic measures for a time bound eradication of Rabies. The whole event was organized by Dr. Sikander Shabab Khan, Head, Department of Veterinary Technology, Government Degree College, Paloura. |
