GCW Bhagwati Nagar launches door-to-door voter awareness campaign | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 28: In a continued effort to bolster voter awareness and participation, the Electoral Literacy Club, IQAC, and NSS unit "Veerangna" of Government College for Women (GCW), Bhagwati Nagar, have initiated an extensive door-to-door campaign in the adopted village of Kharbooja. The initiative, part of the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, aims to educate citizens about the importance of voting and to encourage higher voter turnout in the upcoming elections. Under the patronage of Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of GCW, the campaign focused on engaging with local residents, ensuring they understand the significance of voting in shaping the nation's future. Dr. Abrol highlighted that voting is not only a right but a fundamental duty of every citizen, encouraging the residents to actively participate in the electoral process. The SVEEP initiative, a flagship program by the Election Commission of India, has played a vital role in spreading electoral literacy and motivating citizens to vote. With elections approaching, the door-to-door campaign in Kharbooja village represents a key step in reaching underserved and remote areas. Prof. Nisha Bhagat, Convenor of the IQAC, addressed citizens on ethical voting practices, emphasizing the need to vote without fear or inducement. Meanwhile, Dr. Preeti Salathia, NSS Program Officer, informed residents about special provisions made by the government to assist senior citizens, people with disabilities, and first-time voters, ensuring no eligible voter is left behind. NSS volunteers from the college actively participated in the campaign, displaying great enthusiasm in spreading awareness about the democratic process. The entire event was coordinated by Dr. Mosmi Raina, Convenor of the Electoral Literacy Club, with support from faculty members including Prof. Pavanjeet Bali, Prof. Gagan Jyoti, Prof. Poonam, and Dr. Kamaljeet Singh. This door-to-door campaign is seen as a pivotal effort in increasing voter participation in the region, especially in areas where voter turnout has historically been low. |
