Early Times Report SAMBA, Oct 3: ICAR-Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Regional Research Station Srinagar in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba organized one day Awareness cum Training Programme on 'Recent Fodder Technologies for sustainable livestock productivity' on October 3, 2024 at Daboh Samba. The programme was organised under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan of IGFRI Jhansi, wherein 75 local scheduled caste farmers, mostly women participated. At the outset, the guests and participants were welcomed by Dr Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head KVK Samba Dr Sheeraz Saleem Bhat, Scientist in charge & Senior Scientist, ICAR-IGFRI Regional Station Srinagar interacted with the farmers regarding the programme and highlighted the importance of recent forage technologies and health supplements for healthy livestock. He also discussed how different forage technologies can improve livestock productivity on sustainable basis in particular and socio-economic development of the farmers. Dr Suheel Ahmad, Senior Scientist IGFRI RRS Srinagar highlighted importance of feeding nutritious fodder and production technology of major forage crops, post-harvest technologies, including hay and silage making, during the programme., besides package and practices for rye grass. Dr Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist and Head KVK Samba delivered talk on Fodder trees of Jammu and their role in livestock production system. He highlighted about different schemes of the government, role of KVK and local forage crops. Dr Sudesh Radotra, Principal Scientist and Incharge, IGFRI Palampur Centre chaired the programme and shared his views on different recent forage technologies for sustainable production and utilization. He also enlightened the farmers regarding the package of practices for BN Hybrid, Paspalam and Setaria and their role in sustainable livestock production.
