JNV student experiences legacy, learning at GGM Science College | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 9: Career Counselling and Placement Cell of GGM Science College, a prestigious institution renowned for its rich history and academic excellence, organized a visit of students from P.M SHRI School Jawahar Navodaya Vidalaya, Samba in the Campus. The visit was part of an educational excursion aimed at familiarizing the students with the historical significance of the college and providing them with a hands-on experience in scientific learning.The students, accompanied by their teachers Sumit Kumar, Satya Parkash and Maheshvari Verma, were warmly welcomed by the faculty and student volunteers of the college. Principal Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta while interacting with the visiting students briefly introduced the outstanding reputation and rich cultural legacy of the college. He enlightened them on the value of higher education as well as the range of professional options available for them after schooling. The students were divided into small groups for a guided tour of the key sites within the campus by the committee members, Dr. Devinder Kumar Sharma (Convener), Dr. Ashaq Hussain, Prof. Bal Krishan, Prof. Sanjay, Prof.Reetika Rani, Dr. Nisha, Dr. Sukhdeep Singh Sasan and Prof. Arvind Kumar. In the Zoology museum which houses a diverse collection of preserved specimens, skeletons, and models of various animal species. The museum staff, along with professors from the Zoology Department, gave the students a detailed explanation of the different specimens on display, including rare species and extinct animals. Engaging with them Prof. Bal Krishan spoke with them about the significance of the evolutionary history of certain species, the importance of conservation, and the role of zoology in modern scientific research. The students asked insightful questions, showing a keen interest in understanding the biodiversity preserved in the museum. In the Geology Museum, the students where introduced to a vast collection of minerals, fossils, and rock samples from various geological eras. The Geology Department's experts Dr Mateen Hafiz, Prof. Arjun Singh Rathore and Prof. Sumit guided the students through the exhibits, explaining the processes of rock formation, fossilization, and the significance of different minerals on display of ancient fossils, including a well-preserved dinosaur footprint and samples from the Paleozoic era. After the museum tours, the students were led on a Heritage Walk around the college campus and JKCA Ground. The college, which was established in 1905 boasts remarkable colonial-era architecture and several historical landmarks.
