Meeting held to address cleanliness, pollution control measures at Transport Nagar | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 10: Today, Vice Chairman of Jammu Development Authority (JDA), Pankaj Kumar Sharma, invited a delegation from the Motor Parts Dealers Association (MPDA), Transport Nagar, Jammu, to the JDA office to finalize plans for a comprehensive cleanliness drive in the area. The meeting included officials from various departments, including Mr. Vivak Modi (DLM JDA), Mr. Rakesh Gupta (Joint Commissioner JMC), and Mr. Abdul Sattar (Joint Commissioner H&S JMC Jammu). The focus was on tackling pollution and enhancing the cleanliness of Transport Nagar. Rajinder Parshad Kakkar, President of MPDA, led the delegation and presented a set of demands and suggestions to improve the condition of Transport Nagar: Daily Garbage Collection: MPDA proposed daily shop-to-shop garbage collection, contingent upon Transport Nagar first being cleared of accumulated waste, noting that no cleanliness drive has been conducted in the last 34 years. Addressing Illegal Encroachments: MPDA pointed out the issue of rule violations and unauthorized encroachments, with abandoned vehicles cluttering roadsides. They suggested that a warning be issued through print and electronic media before any anti-encroachment drive begins. Fair Categorization of Collection Charges: MPDA agreed to pay monthly cleanliness charges, but emphasized that fees should be categorized based on the size and type of establishments, as Transport Nagar has a variety of businesses ranging from large transport companies to small workshops. Simplification of Lease Deed Transfers: MPDA requested the simplification of procedures for the transfer of lease deeds and other pending files, proposing a streamlined process with a single undertaking and nominal fees to increase JDA revenue. Upgrading Transport Nagar: MPDA expressed dissatisfaction with the current upgrade efforts, suggesting that funds be diverted to JMC to facilitate the cleanup of 34 years of waste. They also agreed to pay through JMC or JDA apps once the area is cleaned. During the meeting, V.C. Pankaj Kumar Sharma attentively addressed each concern raised by MPDA. It was agreed that a warning would be issued to all stakeholders in Transport Nagar regarding upcoming changes. JDA and JMC will work together to collect data from each establishment before implementing collection charges. Additionally, JDA will fund the initial cleanliness drive, with the amount being deducted later from the collection charges. The MPDA team, including S. Mohinder Pal Singh, Sanjay Dogra, and S. Jaswinder Singh, assured their full cooperation and thanked the V.C. JDA for taking their concerns seriously. They emphasized their commitment to reducing pollution levels and improving the overall condition of Transport Nagar. |
