AGENCIES CHANDIGARH, Oct 11: The scenic campus of Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, today played host to the opening of the International Conference on Recent Developments in Interfaces of Chemistry, Biology, and Materials Science Towards Health and Environment (ICBMHE-2024). Organized by the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, the conference is sponsored by ANRF under the prestigious SERB scheme. Over the next three days, the event will feature prominent international researchers, academics, and industry experts, who will present cutting-edge research and explore new solutions at the intersection of science and health. The major attraction of the conference opening day was the presence of Padma Bhushan Shree Anil Prakash Joshi ji, an eminent personality and an environmentalist of the nation. Shree Joshi ji gave a scintillating talk where he motivated the youth as well as faculty members of JUIT. Shree Joshi ji gave an eye-opening message to all the delegates about the conservation of mother nature. The inaugural ceremony, held in JUIT's Lecture Theatre, began at 10:00 AM, with an introduction of distinguished guests, including Chief Guest Dr Anil Prakash Joshi, Prof Rajendra Kumar Sharma (Vice Chancellor, JUIT), Prof Ashok Kumar Gupta (Dean of Academics & Research), Brig R K Sharma, Registrar and Dean of students, Prof Sudhir Kumar (Head of the Department, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics), Dr Poonam Sharma, Convener and other conveners, faculty members and delegates. The Vice Chancellor delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the critical importance of interdisciplinary research in addressing global health and environmental challenges. Dr Prakash emphasized the need for collaboration between academia and industry, stressing that breakthroughs in biotechnology, chemistry, and materials science have the potential to revolutionize health care and environmental protection. After the formalities, the first technical session commenced at 11:30 AM by Prof. Felix Bast from the Department of Botany at the School of Basic Sciences. Prof. Bast's presentation focused on advancements in materials that mimic biological systems to combat health issues. He was followed by Dr. Kalpana Chauhan from the Central University of Haryana, who discussed the role of nanomaterials and bioinformatics in environmental sustainability. Participants were treated to stimulating discussions and presentations throughout the afternoon. Prof. Pankaj Sharma from NIITR Chandigarh presented on novel applications of advanced materials in healthcare, followed by Prof. Yen Wah Tong from the National University of Singapore, who provided insights into environmental challenges and their solutions through materials science. Both talks were well-received by the audience, prompting lively Q&A sessions. In addition to the formal sessions, the event provided ample opportunities for networking, with participants enjoying high tea and lunch in the scenic surroundings of the university's Mughal Gardens.
