Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 15: SKUAST-Jammu is proud to be the first university in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir to organize Deeksharambh-2024, the foundation course for first-year students. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the 6th Deans Committee Curriculum welcoming undergraduate and postgraduate students admitted for the academic session 2024-2025 marking the beginning of their academic journey. The Deeksharambh programme was organized by Directorate of Education at Chatha Campus for Socializing, Associating, Governing and Experiencing among students. The programme was graced by the presence of Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor of the University, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-J, Prof. B.N. Tripathi congratulated and welcomed the first year students for their admission into the agrivarsity. His inspiring words resonated deeply with students, as he shared valuable insights on how to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in their academic pursuits. His address emphasised the importance of perseverance, curiosity and relentless pursuit of knowledge, the qualities that are vital for success in the field of agriculture. Prof. Tripathi said "SKUAST-Jammu is a gateway to do and achieve something big and get ready to connect with new people, embrace opportunities and explore innovations and creativity. He advised students to uplift their calibre and develop new competencies to meet the challenges of 21 century which is experiencing rapid technological transformation. He emphasised the students to observe and imbibe the true spirit of value education for personality development and shaping their career. Dr. Rajinder Peshin, Director Education, gave the detailed presentation on implementation of 6th Dean's committee recommendations during the current semester. He said that the purpose of Deeksharambh - Student Induction Programme is to help new students adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment, inculcate in them the ethos and culture of the institution, help them build bonds with other students and faculty members and expose them to a sense of larger purpose and self-exploration. He detailed the attendance and academic requirements necessary for successfully completing the semester, urging students to adhere to these rules and maintain regular communication with advisors. In his speech, he highlighted the University's commitment to providing a holistic education that not only imparts technical knowledge but also nurtures personal growth and ethical values. Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean, F.V.Sc. & A.H. provided an overview of VCI regulations for B.V.Sc. & A.H. Dr. Sudhakar Dwivedi, Dean Students Welfare highlighted the importance of the Dean Students welfare wing and outlined the hostel rules and regulations, ensuring a smooth transition for students into hostel life. He also highlighted the importance of extracurricular activities in students' holistic development. Dr. R.K. Samnotra, University Librarian spoke on library resources and facilities. Dr. Sanjay Guleria, Incharge Counselling and Placement Cell, provided an overview of the cell. He said that career opportunities for the students has increased manifold by linking academia with industry. Earlier, the event began with a warm welcome by Dr. Anil Kumar, Registrar and Dean, Faculty of Agriculture; setting the tone for an informative and engaging session. The orientation programme was attended by all the statutory officers of the University viz., Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Research, Dr. Sanjay Khar, Director Planning and Monitoring, Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, Dr. S. E.H. Rizvi, Deean, F.B.Sc., Dr. Sushil Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Agril. Engineering, Dr. J.S. Soodan, Dean, Faculty of Dairy Technology, Dr. R. K. Salgotra, Director, IBT, Head of the Divisions, medical doctors, teaching fraternity and students.
