Court orders enquiry into alleged Rs 1 lakh bribery by former tehsildar | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 28: In a significant development, a special anti-corruption court has directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu to investigate allegations against Sohan Lal Rana, the former Tehsildar of R.S. Pura, and Tirath Singh, the former Office Qanoongo, for allegedly demanding Rs 1 lakh as a bribe to attest a land mutation. The complaint was filed by Jaspal Singh, who claimed that the officials had solicited the money for attesting the mutation of land owned by his deceased father, located in Khasra No. 780 at Village Kharian. Following the initial verification conducted by the ACB, the court noted discrepancies in the mutation records. The records indicated that the mutation in question was attested in 2023, not in 2017, as claimed by the complainant. This contradiction, along with the need for further evidence from various departments, led the ACB to seek authorization for an open verification. The court emphasized the necessity of conducting a thorough inquiry into the allegations, considering their serious nature. It instructed the SSP of ACB Jammu to expedite the investigation and proceed according to the law. |
