Jammu, Nov 3: The age-old tradition of dangal (wrestling) made a vibrant return to Khandwal Panchayat, attracting a large community gathering that fostered unity and excitement. Ex-Sarpanch and senior BJP leader Sonam Deep Singh Aulakh attended as the chief guest, adding prestige to the event, which was organized by Panch Bodh Raj, Pradhan of the Dangal Committee. In his address, Aulakh emphasized the significance of traditional sports like wrestling, hockey, and kabaddi, especially in rural areas. “These sports are not just games; they are part of our heritage and vital for engaging our youth, steering them away from drug addiction while promoting physical and mental health,” he remarked, receiving widespread approval from the audience. Aulakh urged J&K Sports Minister Satish Sharma to prioritize traditional sports, highlighting their importance in building a healthy and active society. He announced plans for more such events across the rural belt of Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to rekindle interest in cultural and physical activities. “Supporting and expanding these sports is crucial for providing young people with constructive outlets that enhance their health and strengthen community bonds,” he added. The successful organization of this dangal not only revived a beloved sport but also sparked hopes for a broader revival of traditional sports in the region.
