Early Times Report HIRANAGAR, Nov 10: Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Head of the Department of Music at Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Government Degree College, Hiranagar, was a key resource person at a National Seminar on Music held in Shikohabad, Uttar Pradesh. The seminar, titled "The Relation of Music with Literature, Society, and History", took place on November 8-9, 2024, at BDMM Girls Degree College, sponsored by the Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi. Dr. Bharat delivered an insightful presentation on the pivotal role played by Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar in institutionalizing music education in India. His efforts, particularly the founding of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in 1901, were instrumental in creating a formal, structured system of music education. Dr. Bharat outlined how Paluskar's vision led to the integration of music as a formal subject in educational institutions, setting the foundation for a standardized curriculum that included both theoretical and practical aspects of music. Dr. Bharat also emphasized Paluskar's broader impact on Indian classical music, noting his role in promoting the art through conferences, festivals, and publications. His work has had a lasting influence on the accessibility and respectability of music education in India. The session was chaired by Prof. Lawanya Kirti Singh, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at L.N. Mithila University, who praised Dr. Bharat's presentation. Dr. Geeta Yadvendu, Principal of BDMM Girls Degree College, and Dr. Monika Singh, the seminar convener, also honored Dr. Bharat for his valuable contributions.
