Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Nov 13: A two-day District-Level Training Programme on Soil Health Management, organized by the Divisional Soil Survey Scheme under the Directorate of Agriculture Production and Farmer's Welfare, Jammu, successfully concluded at the SDAO Office in Udhampur. The event aimed at enhancing sustainable soil management practices, witnessed the participation of 50 farmers and rural youth from across the district. This training, part of the HADP Project no. 19 - J&K Soil and Land Resources Information Systems for Planning and Soil Health Management (JKSLRI), focused on key aspects such as sustainable soil health management, the judicious use of fertilizers, and the Soil Health Card Scheme. Expert resource persons, including Dr. Sanjay Koushal (Scientist, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SKUAST-J), Aman Jyoti Sharma (Agriculture Chemist, Jammu), and Dr. Neeraj Rajwal (Assistant Soil Chemist, Jammu), led insightful sessions on land capability classification, integrated nutrient management, and more. The sessions provided participants with practical knowledge on improving soil health and optimizing agricultural practices. A highlight of the programme was the distribution of Soil Sample Collection Kits, enabling farmers to conduct soil testing and enhance their farming practices. The certificates were presented by Suresh Kumar Khajuria, Divisional Soil Survey Officer, who emphasized the importance of these initiatives in empowering farmers with tools for sustainable soil management. In his address, Khajuria stated, "Healthy soils are the backbone of agricultural resilience, and through this training, we aim to contribute to the long-term productivity and sustainability of our agricultural systems." The training concluded with a valedictory session, and the event was managed by Rajeev Katoch, Programme Officer at the Office of the Joint Director of Agriculture (Extension) Jammu. |
