Jammu, Dec 1: The CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu, celebrated its 84th Foundation Day with great zeal and enthusiasm. Established as the Drug Research Laboratory of the then J&K State under the leadership of Sir Ram Nath Chopra, CSIR-IIIM has grown to become a premier research institute under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. The event featured a series of activities highlighting the institute's legacy and contributions to scientific research and innovation. Dr. Manoj Kumar Dhar, Director of the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu, served as the Chief Guest. In his lecture, “Creating an Ecosystem to Produce Next-Gen Science Leaders”, Dr. Dhar emphasized the need for grooming young scientists to lead India towards its Vision 2047 goals. Dr. Nirpendra Chauhan, Director of the Centre for Aromatic Plants, Dehradun, was the Guest of Honour. He spoke about advancements in Medicinal and Aromatic Plant (MAP) cultivation and opportunities for collaborative efforts between institutions. Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director of CSIR-IIIM, reflected on the institute's remarkable journey and achievements. He lauded the contributions of staff and researchers, highlighting milestones such as increased patent filings and impactful research projects. Certificates of recognition were presented for notable achievements, including: • Filing of new investigational drug (IND) applications and clinical trial approvals. • Contributions to microbial and compound repositories. • Patents for innovative processes and formulations in fields like cancer treatment, anti-viral agents, and sustainable agriculture. The week-long celebrations included a variety of sports and recreational events: • Cricket Tournament: Won by the Natural Products and Medicinal Chemistry Division, led by Dr. Naveed Qazi. • Volleyball Tournament: Secured by the Plant Science and Agrotechnology Division. • Badminton Competitions: Various age and gender categories saw spirited participation, with winners including Dr. Zabeer Ahmed and Er. Bikram Singh in doubles and Tanushka in singles. • Tug-of-War and Musical Chairs: Popular among staff and families, these events added a festive touch to the celebrations. In conjunction with National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, a blood donation camp was held on September 30, 2024. Donors were felicitated during the Foundation Day event for their altruistic contributions. Recognizing the importance of India’s national language, awards were presented to staff members excelling in carrying out administrative work in Hindi. The celebrations concluded with a vote of thanks by Er. Abdul Rahim, Chief Scientist and Head of RMBD&IST. Dr. Deepika Singh, Principal Scientist and Head of QMI, conducted the proceedings. Under the leadership of Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, CSIR-IIIM continues to set benchmarks in research, innovation, and community engagement, reaffirming its commitment to national and global scientific progress.
