Udhampur, Dec 1: A monthly meeting of the Jammu Kashmir Teachers' Joint Action Committee (JKTJAC) was held in Udhampur under the leadership of UT President Vinod Sharma and District President Lekh Raj Parihar. The meeting was attended by executive members and representatives from various zones of the district. Mr. Vinod Sharma raised several burning issues concerning the teaching community, urging the government to address them for the welfare of teachers, particularly those appointed under the ReT scheme. He appealed to the Education Minister to implement Government Order No. 469 Edu of 2014, which calls for the inclusion of the 5-year ReT period for seniority benefits and transfers for ReT teachers. He cited a recent order from the Hon'ble CAT which stated that after regularization, ReTs are equivalent to general-line teachers and should be treated accordingly. Sharma also raised the issue of the Old Pension Scheme, urging the government to implement it for employees appointed after January 1, 2010, citing that the National Pension Scheme (NPS) is unfavorable for employees after retirement. Other key demands included: • Regularization of ReTs who have completed the 5-year ReT period • Conversion of RRETs to Teacher Grade II/III • Benefit of Cash in Lieu for the teaching fraternity • Conversion of headteacher posts into non-plan posts of masters • Conducting one more DPC of teachers to masters • Adjustment of recently promoted masters in Jammu Province • Release of time-barred arrears for teachers/masters • Raising the grade of teachers to match counterparts in other UTs • Granting earned leave to teachers engaged during vacations for camps and other duties • Filling vacant posts of ZEOs/Principals/Headmasters in headless zones • Providing DDO powers to headless zones/schools Lekh Raj Parihar also urged the Chief Education Officer, Udhampur, to take strict action against erring officials who delay the submission of budget requirements, causing salary grant delays and hardships for teachers. He further requested intervention in completing service records and releasing dues for teachers. Other members who spoke included Sham Sharma, Ashok Seth, Ravinder Singh Rathore, Vijay Sadotra, Suresh Sharma, and others. The meeting ended with a strong call for timely resolution of these issues to ensure the welfare of the teaching community.
