JAMMU, Dec 4: Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, successfully hosted a one-day seminar on December 4, 2024, titled "The Hormonal Highway: Navigating PCOS with Nutrition and Self-Care." The seminar focused on raising awareness about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a common yet often overlooked health condition affecting 5-10% of women of childbearing age. The event aimed to educate participants about the importance of early diagnosis, lifestyle modifications, and holistic management of PCOS, and featured insights from distinguished experts in the fields of gynecology, holistic health, and nutrition.
The seminar commenced with an inaugural address by the Principal, Dr. S.P. Sarswat, who emphasized the need to address PCOS as a significant health challenge for young women. The welcome address was presented by Dr. Neelima Gupta, who extended a warm greeting to all dignitaries, speakers, and participants. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Anjali Bhat, Head of the Department of Home Science, whose leadership and efforts ensured the seminar's success.
Renowned speakers graced the seminar with their expertise and experience. Dr. Amita Gupta, an eminent gynecologist and former Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology at GMCH Jammu, shared her vast knowledge on hormonal and reproductive challenges associated with PCOS. Currently a consultant at Suvidha Mother and Child Nursing Home, Dr. Gupta's expertise in high-risk pregnancies and infertility has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious FOGSI Achiever Award. Her insightful session focused on the medical aspects of PCOS and the importance of timely interventions.
Dr. Himani Bhutyal, a Medical Officer at AYUSH J&K and a master yoga trainer, brought a holistic perspective to managing PCOS. Known for her work in promoting health and wellness through Ayurveda and yoga, she has led community programs and delivered lectures at schools and colleges. Her session highlighted the benefits of integrating yoga, Ayurveda, and mindfulness into daily life to combat PCOS symptoms effectively.
The seminar also featured Dr. Gurmeet Gujral, a clinical dietitian and certified weight management expert, who emphasized the role of balanced nutrition and lifestyle in managing PCOS. With numerous awards, including the Padma Vibhushan Dr. Nirmala Deshpande Award 2024, and recognition from various organizations, Dr. Gujral's session provided practical dietary guidelines and strategies for improving overall health and reducing long-term risks.
The event witnessed active participation of more than 700 first-semester students, faculty members, and invited guests. NUtritious refreshments were provided to students to emphasize the seminar's theme of self-care and well-being.
