GCW Gandhinagar organizes one-day Aari Work Workshop | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 5: The Department of Home Science, Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu, in collaboration with the Dogre Well Wisher Foundation (NPO) registered under the Centre, successfully organized a one-day workshop on the traditional art of Aari work. This initiative aimed to preserve this exquisite embroidery technique while empowering local artisans and fostering skill development. The workshop featured skilled artisans Ms. Ritu Gupta, a renowned artist registered with the Handicrafts of J&K under the Ministry of Textiles, and Mr. Arun Gupta, an expert in the craft from Jammu. They shared their extensive knowledge and demonstrated intricate techniques of Aari work, enabling participants to gain hands-on experience. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 84 students of Semester 1 and faculty members of the Home Science Department. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal of the college, Dr. S.P. Sarswat, appreciated the department's efforts in organizing the workshop and emphasized the importance of skill development in today's competitive era. "Acquiring practical skills is essential in bridging the gap between traditional art forms and modern demands. Such initiatives not onlypreserve our cultural heritage but also open new avenues for students and artisans alike," he remarked. The workshop was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Anjali Bhat, Head of the Department of Home Science. Faculty members including Dr. Neelima Gupta, Prof. Vishav Deepika, and Dr. Arpana were present and actively supported the event. The participants expressed their gratitude for the enriching experience, which not only enhanced their understanding of Aari embroidery but also inspired them to explore its application in contemporary fashion and home decor. |
