Sumit Magotra leads protest over removal of 'Udhampur' name at railway station | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Dec 15: Congress Working President and Udhampur Assembly candidate, Sumit Magotra, led a massive protest at the Udhampur railway station, accompanied by hundreds of supporters. The protesters, marching in a procession, were stopped by a heavy deployment of railway police at the station, leading to a brief scuffle. In their anger, the protesters raised slogans against the Ministry of Railways and the railway administration. Addressing the media, Magotra expressed his displeasure over the removal of "Udhampur" from the station name. He stated that a delegation had met with the railway superintendent ten days ago, demanding the reinstatement of Udhampur's name. He warned that if the demand was not met within ten days, they would stage a protest outside the station, as promised. Magotra clarified that while honoring martyrs like Tushar Mahajan is commendable, the complete removal of Udhampur's name undermines the city's identity. He also criticized MLA Pawan kumar Gupta ( Udhampur west ) for allegedly misleading the public by claiming that "Udhampur" appears on railway tickets. Magotra countered this claim by showing tickets that lacked the name, which he said confuses passengers, causing them to miss their station. The Congress leader also accused MP Dr. Jitendra Singh of failing to keep his promise, made over seven months ago, to restore the name. Magotra announced that if "Udhampur" is not re-added to the railway station signage within a month, a "Rail Roko" agitation will be launched. |
