Early Times Report KATHUA, Dec 16: Acting against the menace of bovine smuggling, the Kathua Police rescued 44 bovines and arrested two individuals in two separate incidents in the Lakhanpur and Basantpur areas on December 15. Two trucks used for smuggling were also seized during the operations conducted under the supervision of SSP Kathua Shobhit Saksena (IPS). A police team from PS Lakhanpur, led by SHO Lakhanpur and supervised by DySP DAR Kathua, intercepted a suspicious truck (Registration No. PB13AW-1131) during a routine naka check. The truck, driven by Vakil Singh, a resident of Haryana, was found transporting 27 bovines (20 cows and 7 oxen) in a cruel and illegal manner. The animals were rescued, the driver was arrested, and the truck was seized on the spot. A case has been registered under FIR No. 139/2024 under sections 223/BNS and 11/PCA Act, and further investigation is underway. In another naka check at Basantpur, a police team stopped a truck (Registration No. JK21D-3786) driven by Sohan Singh of Jammu. Upon inspection, 17 bovines (7 cows and 10 oxen) were found crammed into the vehicle. All animals were rescued, the driver was arrested, and the truck was seized. A case under FIR No. 138/2024 has been registered, and further investigation is in progress. In total, 44 bovines (27 cows and 17 oxen) were rescued, two smugglers were arrested, and two trucks were seized in the operations. Kathua Police has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating bovine smuggling and has urged citizens to report such activities by calling 100 or 09858034100. The police have assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential. |
