Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 16: Division of Fruit science, SKUAST-Jammu under the leadership of Professor B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu and the guidance of Director Research SKUAST Jammu organized one day training cum awareness programme on "Importance and scope of Dragon fruit cultivation in Rainfed areas of J & K" .Programme was coordinated by Dr. Arti Sharma, Professor Fruit Science and PI HADP-RAD- DRAGON FRUIT under HADP project number-15 on Rainfed Area Development at Chatha SKUAST-Jammu. Programme was attended by farmers from different Panchayats of District Jammu. The main objective of organizing this workshop was to promote Dragon fruit Cultivation in the Jammu region for the livelihood security of the farmers. Dr. Sushil Kumar Gupta, Director Research, SKUAST-J was chief guest and Dr. Amrish vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST-J and Dr. Vikas Tandon, Dean FoH&F were guests of Honor. Dr. Sushil Kumar Gupta informed farmers about various initiatives taken by university for the welfare of farmers and also informed about various undergoing HADP projects. Pamphlets, technical bulletin on Dragonfruit cultivation and dragon fruit plants were distributed to farmers. Experts suggested adopting Dragon fruit for sustainable development of rainfed lands. Programme was started by welcome address by Dr. A.P. Singh Coordinator HADP project number-15 on Rainfed Area Development. Dr. Parshant Bakshi, Head, Division of Fruit science, SKUAST-Jammu delivered expert lecture on Dragon fruit cultivation and informed farmers about various aspects of dragon fruit. A field visit was organized at demonstration block of Dragon fruit established at SKUAST-Jammu under HADP project no.-15 for the enhancements of knowledge about dragon fruit cultivation and its training system to the participants. Dr. Amit Jasrotia and Dr, Deep ji Bhat, Professors Division of Fruit science practically demonstrated various aspects of dragon fruit cultivation in field. Dr. Neeraj Gupta, Professor, Post Harvest Management demonstrated preparation of value added produucts of dragon fruit. The training programme was also attended by Dr. Punya, Sumit Bura, PhD. Scholar, Angat Deep Singh PG scholar and Undergraduate students of B. Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture. |
