MLA Randhawa, Commissioner JMC take stock of developmental activities | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 17: MLA Vikram Randhawa, accompanied by Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav, today undertook an extensive tour of Gandhi Nagar, Jammu South to take stock of developmental activities and public amenities in the area. The visit was aimed at reviewing the ongoing developmental projects and ensuring the smooth execution of various projects being executed under the Jammu Smart City Limited project. During the tour, the team inspected the construction of a major drainage system, being built at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore. This drain, which stretches from Swarn Theatre to the Last More Gandhi Nagar Road, is a vital component of the locality infrastructural development, as it aims to address long-standing drainage issues in the area. Emphasizing on the importance of completing the drainage project within the set timelines, they called for ensuring the quality of the work. They further stressed that the project should not face any delays and that all safety and engineering norms must be adhered to during its construction. Calling for removing the encroachments along the nallahs on which individuals have constructed residential and business establishments, posing potential risks to public safety and hindering the effective functioning of the drainage system, MLA Randhawa and Dr. Yadav highlighted the need for a well-thought-out strategy to remove the encroachments in a structured manner, ensuring that the area is cleared for the completion of the drain. A solution must be devised to balance the development needs with the rights of the residents, they added. The Commissioner informed that certain steps to be taken to avoid future encroachments on or along nallahs. Public utilities would be created in the area to make it more accessible and convenience for the general public, ensuring the space is used for community-friendly purposes, he added. Stressing the need for overall beautification and cleanliness of the Gandhi Nagar area, the Commissioner directed the concerned to relocate the food court currently situated at Gole Market with the aim to improve the ambiance of the market and reduce congestion in the area. In order to stop the parking of two-wheelers at Apsara Road, the Commissioner said that space would be provided at Dushehra Ground, adding that the step would go a long way in reducing overcrowding and more space at the Apsara road. "Fines will be levied on defaulters who continue to park their vehicles in the designated area despite the directive," he maintained. Among others, Deputy Commissioner, (South) Lal Chand, representatives from Revenue Department and other senior officers from Jammu Municipal Corporation accompanied the Commissioner during the tour. |
