PIB Jammu organises seminar, bike rally to promote WAVES

JAMMU, Dec 23: Press Information Bureau (PIB) Jammu, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with University of Jammu organized a seminar and a bike rally here today to promote the upcoming World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES).
The seminar, aimed at creating awareness about myriad aspects of WAVES, highlighted the role of modern technology in shaping the entertainment sector, and also stressed the importance of content creation and media literacy. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest of the event, Shri Vikramjit Singh, Secretary, Department of Industry and Commerce emphasized the role of technology in democratizing content creation. He said that the past decade has seen a tremendous shift in how content is created and distributed. "Emerging technologies, especially AR and VR, have made it more affordable and accessible to create high-quality content. Today, anyone with the right skills can become a creator," he said. He also noted that India's diverse cultural and linguistic landscape provides a unique advantage. "Our multilingual markets are unmatched by global competitors, and there is significant investment potential in catering to these specific audiences," the Secretary added. He said that WAVES is an excellent opportunity for individuals to enter the industry and showcase their creativity to a global audience.
Director, Press Information Bureau, Jammu, Ms. Neha Jalali spoke about the interconnected nature of media, where content creators and consumers are united. She said that content creation is not only about art but has a direct economic impact. "With the rise of OTT platforms, we see an increasingly organized sector that benefits both citizens and the economy," she said. Ms Jalali further highlighted the importance of policy-making and collaboration across sectors to propel the media industry forward. She said that the summit will provide an excellent platform for learning, networking, and exploring the immense potential of the entertainment industry.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman, Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM), Manik Batra highlighted the rapid transformation of the media industry, driven by evolving technologies and changing consumer behaviors. With the market currently valued at 27.3 billion dollars, the future looks promising, offering immense opportunities across various sectors, including advertising and gaming, which has now become the fourth-largest industry in the country. He said that India is poised to become a major player in the global content market and the diverse landscapes of India, from Bollywood to regional cinema and rich tourism offerings position the country as an ideal destination for content creators. The WAVES Summit will further enhance India's position as a global investment hub and foster strategic relationships with international markets, he added.
Dean, Students' Welfare, University of Jammu, Sh. Prakash Anthal thanked the Press Information Bureau (PIB) for collaborating with the Jammu University (JU) about the awareness program and bike rally ahead of the global summit. Acknowledging the vital role of the media industry in India's development, the Dean emphasized that India's aspirations to become a developed nation are closely tied to the growth of its media industry."We have a unique opportunity for students to participate in challenges that will help them develop the skills necessary for the global stage," the Dean stated adding that India is already the seventh-largest exporter of audio-visual content, and will make its way among the top five in the coming years. Encouraging students to actively engage in the event, the Dean remarked that WAVES offers a great platform for students to showcase their talents and gain valuable experience.
In his address, Media and Communication Officer, Zakir Nazeer spoke on the significance of WAVES and its potential to propel India's Media and Entertainment industry to greater heights and amplify the nation's voice as a global powerhouse. He said India is poised to become a prominent hub for high-quality and cost-effective content development. He also briefed the gathering on 27 incredible competitions spanning animation, gaming, sports, comics and filmmaking under Create in India Challenge Season One.
Earlier in his welcome address, Media and Communication Officer, Press Information Jammu Muzafar Wani highlighted that the Indian media and entertainment industry is experiencing significant growth, driven by changing consumer behaviour and technological advancements and the WAVES Summit will provide a platform for content creators and other media professionals to showcase their talent at national and international levels.
