JMC, police conduct joint anti encroachment drive | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 23: In continuation of anti-encroachment drives by Jammu Municipal Corporation, a drive was conducted in collaboration with traffic police in the areas like Channi Himmat, Narwal, Panama Chowk, Railway Road, Baggar Basti, Gandhi Nagar in order to ease traffic congestions and ensure free movement of pedestrians on footpaths. The drive was conducted on the instructions of Commissioner, JMC, Dr. Devansh Yadav (IAS). During the drive, the special squad of Jammu Municipal Corporation seized the material displayed by the shopkeepers in front of their shops and footpaths causing traffic congestions and free flow of pedestrians. The team also lifted illegal rehries and removed unauthorized hoardings/flexes from these areas. Jammu Municipal Corporation has repeatedly issued strict instructions to the shopkeepers regarding removal of encroachments by shopkeepers through public notices. The shopkeepers violating rules by displaying their goods beyond the shutter line of their shops in that case an action shall be initiated against the defaulters/encroachers in terms of Section 232 of the Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 which may further lead towards the sealing of the shops as per law. Strict instructions were also issued to the street vendors/phari walas to ply their rehries only in the rehri zones established by Jammu Municipal Corporation. Such type of drives shall continue in near future also. Further Dr. Devansh Yadav (IAS), Commissioner, JMC today conducted tour of Apsra Road, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu to took stock of area alongwith Sr. Supdt. of Police, Traffic, Jammu Mr. Faisal Qureshi. During the tour he briefed the media that Apsara Road was constructed/upgraded with the aim to boost the business scenario of the area but due to parking of vehicles at left side of road created traffic chaos resulting into major traffic jams and problems to the visitors/customers. He further added that one way sign boards have been installed by JMC to overcome traffic congestion on the Apsara road and in order to streamline the parking system and to ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic, the instructions were issued that no vehicle shall be parked on the left side of the Apsara raod from Gole Market towards Last Morh Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and vehicles shall be parked on the right side of the road, strictly within the yellow line. Shopkeepers of Apsara road shall park their two wheelers on the road side area adjacent to Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and four wheelers at nearby parking space of J&K Housing Board. Any violation will be acted upon under JMC Act, 2000. |
