Organic farming training conducted at CONF Chatha under HADP project | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 25: Centre for Organic and Natural Farming (CONF), SKUAST-Jammu organized one-day training cum awareness program entitled Importance of organic and natural farming practices for sustainable crop production under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) project on Alternate agriculture Systems for Sustainability on 24-12-24. The program aimed to educate and empower local farmers and farm women by imparting knowledge on best practices for enhancing crop quality and marketability. The training was conducted under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) B.N. Tripathi, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Balbir Dhotra, Principal Investigator who welcomed Prof. Parshant Bakshi - Head, CONF and other scientists of the university. In this programme, more than 50 farmers and farm women from village Shergarhi, Miran Sahib, R.S. Pura participated in the event. In his inaugural address Prof. Balbir Dhotra discussed importance of Organic and Natural farming to combat health related issues of soil and humans. He stressed that organic and natural farming practices should be followed to reduce the burden of chemicals in soils. Prof. Bakshi emphasized the significance of the HADP project and its role in promoting organic and natural farming in Jammu region. He interacted with the farmers and urged them to share their experiences of traditional practices of farming. He stressed upon the farmers to follow Good Agricultural Practices for improving human health and also taught the various methods of preparation of Jeevamrit, Bejamrit, Neem Astra, Panchgavya to the participants. He visited them to strawberry field where organic cultivation using various mulches were demonstrated. Dr Satesh Kumar,Prof (Vegetable Science) discussed in detail the various aspects of Organic and Natural farming in vegetable cultivation and suggested the farmers to adopt few remedies like mulching, seed treatment, nursery management etc suitable in their farm. Dr S.K.Singh, Professor give live demonstration of the preparation of NSKE and other formulations to the farmers Dr Kiran Kour,Professor (Fruit Science) discussed organic cultivation of dragon fruit to the farmers and suggested for introducing dragon crop in their orchards. The program was managed by Niraj Manhas, Sadiq Ahmad, Vaid Raj and other staff members of the centre and the training concluded with a positive response from the farmers, who expressed their gratitude for the valuable information shared and vowed to implement the knowledge gained in their farming practices. During the event, various small tools (sickle and khurpa) were also distributed among the farmers. |
