Forest Deptt employees protest against neglect by authorities | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 26: Employees of the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department staged a protest at the Forest Complex Dogra Hall in Jammu, expressing dissatisfaction over prolonged neglect and unresolved grievances by the authorities. Organized by the All Jammu and Kashmir Non-Gazetted Forest Employees Association (NGFOA), the protest highlighted several key issues affecting their welfare and working conditions. Key Demands: Conduct of DPCs in Jammu Province: Employees have faced delays in departmental promotions due to the non-conduct of Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs) across all cadres. Reorganization of the Forest Department: Repeated requests for departmental reorganization remain unaddressed, causing operational inefficiencies. Pay Anomalies: Salary grades for Forest Guards have remained stagnant, unlike their counterparts in other roles such as Revenue Patwaris and Teachers, who received pay upgrades. 2½ Days' Salary: Despite 24/7 service in extreme conditions, frontline staff are denied the entitled salary benefit. Risk Allowance: Despite facing life-threatening situations, with over 140 frontline staff losing their lives on duty, employees have not been granted risk allowances. Hundreds of employees from different districts joined the protest, voicing their frustrations over the administration's "rigid and non-serious attitude." Leaders Speak Out: S/Sh. Rajinder Singh Parihar (President, NGFOA), Sh. Gurcharan Singh (Provincial President, Jammu), and other senior leaders condemned the apathy of the authorities. They stressed that forest employees are the backbone of the department, enduring immense stress and dangerous conditions while ensuring the protection of forest resources. "We are treated like bonded laborers despite our contributions. Our legitimate rights are consistently ignored, leaving us with no option but to protest," said the leaders. Next Steps: The NGFOA has called for a two-day mass casual leave on December 27 and 28, 2024, urging employees to stage protests at their respective office complexes and continue their fight for justice.
