Highlighting Dr. Singh's exceptional contributions, Tony lauded him as the architect of modern India's economic transformation. During his tenure as Finance Minister in 1991 and later as Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh implemented groundbreaking economic reforms. These measures ended the license raj, introduced merit-based criteria in various sectors, and ushered India into a new era of liberalization. His policies paved the way for unprecedented economic growth, with India's GDP achieving a record high of 10.03% in 2010-11, he added. Tony emphasized Dr. Manmohan Singh's commitment to social welfare, particularly the introduction of transformative programs like the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the provision of free 10 kg of ration to the poor for the first time. These initiatives significantly alleviated poverty and enhanced the quality of life for millions. "Dr. Manmohan Singh's legacy extends to landmark achievements such as the Right to Information Act, which promoted transparency and accountability, and the India-US Civil Nuclear Agreement, elevating India's global stature and ensuring energy security. His diplomatic acumen strengthened India's relations with major powers and neighbors, solidifying the country's position on the global stage," Tony said. Tony stated that Dr. Manmohan Singh will forever be remembered as a visionary leader whose wisdom, humility, and contributions profoundly shaped India's socio-economic and political landscape. |
