Early Times Report KATHUA, APRIL 08- After the withdrawal of candidature by Mr. Vimal Sharma, Independent candidate from 5- Udhampur parliamentary constituency today on the last day of withdrawal, 14 contestants are left in fray for the Udhampur constituency polling which is scheduled on April 23.
The contesting candidates include Mr. Adrees Ahmad, CPI, Balbir Singh, PDP, Prof. Bhim Singh, JKNPP, Ch. Lal Singh, INC, Dr. Nirmal Singh, BJP, Mr. Rakesh Wazir, BSP, Mr. Rajesh Manchanda, Rashtriya Krantikari Samajawadi party, Master William Gill, All India Forward Block, Atul Sharma, Dr. Bodh Raj, Kanchan Sharma,, Dev Raj, Mohd Yousuf, and Naresh Dogra all Independents.
Meanwhile, Returning Officer, Ms. Mandeep Kaur today convened a meeting of the contesting candidates and their representatives and allotted symbols to the contesting candidates in presence of the four Election Observers appointed for the constituency. She also briefed the contesting candidates about the provisions of Model Code of Conduct, maintenance of expenditure registers, permission for running vehicles for campaigning and, printing, pasting of posters & other campaign material.
The Observers also elaborated the provisions of the model code of conduct to the political parties and said that any violation in this regard shall be seriously viewed. They said that no public property could be used for pasting/erecting posters/ hoardings and for using private property, the permission of owner is a pre-requisite.
Ms. Mandeep Kaur also notified dates for checking the expenditure registers of the contesting candidates in the office of the District treasury Officer as 11th, 15th, 18th and 21st of April, 2009
