Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 9: The Centre for Women's Studies, University of Jammu today organized a Gender Sensitization workshop for the P.G Students and scholars of the Department of Library and Information Sciences, University of Jammu. Prof. Sangita Gupta, Head, Department of Library and Information Sciences, University of Jammu, welcomed all the participants and emphasized on the importance of such workshops and applauded the efforts of the Centre. Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women's Studies was the resource person. She discussed the numerous gender issues in her presentation and went into detail about how patriarchy is used as a tool to lower women's standing in society and contributes to a number of issues that affect women, including acid attacks, dowry killings, domestic violence, and harassment. Further, she explained the motive behind the conduct of such workshops. She stated that we must all respect the social differences that exist and comprehend that every person is unique, these differences shouldn't be the basis of social inequality and discrimination. She further added that because students are the front-runners of social change, the Centre is trying to instill gender sensitivity among the students and scholars through workshops of this nature. Large number of scholars, students and faculty members very enthusiastically participated in the workshop and asked various questions which were answered to their satisfaction. Dr. Saranjit Kaur conducted and coordinated the program and Ms. Kunzang Angmo presented the formal vote of thanks, both faculty members from Centre for Women's Studies. |
