JAMMU, Jan 11: The much-anticipated State-level Shastra competition commenced today at the Shri Ranbir Campus of Central Sanskrit University, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu. The two-day program was inaugurated by Shyam Lal Sharma, MLA of Jammu North, in a grand ceremony attended by eminent dignitaries, scholars, and participants from across the state.
Sham Lal Sharma, in his inaugural address, praised the institution for its dedication to preserving traditional knowledge and imparting it to students. He emphasized the cultural and intellectual significance of such events, likening them to the Mahakumbh of Sanskrit studies. Congratulating the participants and organizers, he encouraged continued efforts in promoting Sanskrit education. He also promised to construct a yagna Shala in the campus for the students of the campus.
The event, coordinated by Dr. Promod Shukla, began with a formal welcome address by Prof. Satish Kumar Kapoor. Prof. Shridhar Mishra, Director of Shri Ranbir Campus, presided over the program. In his presidential address, he highlighted the vital role of Sanskrit-based studies in nation-building, emphasizing discipline, dedication, and a strong desire to learn Sanskrit as the foundation for making it one of India's foremost communicative languages.
Distinguished academicians, including Prof. Vishnu Kant Pandey, Prof. Ram Kumar Sharma from Jaipur Campus, Prof. Surya Mani Rath, and Prof. Sacchinand Sharma, also graced the occasion, adding intellectual depth to the event.
Over the course of two days, 34 Shastriya competitions across different categories will be held, providing a platform for students to showcase their knowledge and skills. Winners from these competitions will earn the prestigious opportunity to participate in the All India Shastriya Pratiyogita, set to take place in Haridwar in February-March this year.
Dr. Sarvesh Kumar Tripathy conducted the program with great efficiency, as it witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and non-faculty members. Delegations from Shri Vaishnodevi Sanskrit Gurukul, Katra, Chudamani Sanskrit Gurukul, Basohli, and the host institution, Shri Ranbir Campus, Central Sanskrit University, contributed to the vibrant atmosphere of the event.
The inaugural day set the stage for a stimulating exchange of ideas, celebrating the intellectual and cultural heritage of Sanskrit. This two-day event promises to inspire deeper engagement with classical studies while fostering a competitive spirit among students.
