Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 13: The students and staff of APS Miran Sahib gathered to celebrate the vibrant festival of Lohri, marking the onset of the winter harvest season. The event, filled with cultural activities and joyful enthusiasm, was held on the school grounds. The celebration began with a special assembly where Advika of Class VIII A highlighted the cultural significance of Lohri through an engaging speech. Students also performed a skit and song depicting the history and traditions of the festival, including the importance of the Lohri bonfire and sugarcane harvest. The centerpiece of the event was the traditional bonfire, around which students and teachers sang Lohri songs, fostering a sense of unity. Adding to the festivities was an inter-house solo dance competition, where Zorawar and Rajinder Houses claimed the first position, followed by Gulab House and Somnath House securing the second and third positions, respectively. Sidhi from Class XI C and Baljinder from Class VII D recited self-composed poems, emphasizing the festival's deeper symbolic meanings-its spiritual, social, and seasonal significance. Various creative activities, including card-making, bonfire-making, and dhol-making, engaged students across classes, while a Lohri quiz tested their knowledge about the festival. In a heartwarming gesture, students donated woolen clothes and sweets to underprivileged families, spreading the message of unity and compassion. "Lohri is not only a celebration of the harvest but also a reminder of the values of togetherness, sharing, and gratitude," said Ms. Nisha Gupta, Head Coordinator of APS Miran Sahib. The celebrations at APS Miran Sahib beautifully reflected the spirit of Lohri, bringing joy, culture, and social responsibility to the forefront. |
