Symposium on Save Girl Child, Save the Nation held

UDHAMPUR, Jan 16: To generate awareness among the students, the Department of Political Science and DSW under the aegis of IQAC in collaboration with Advocate Sanjeet Bavouria, a renowned advocate of Judiciary, Udhampur, organized a Symposium on theme, "Save Girl Child, Save the Nation" under the main slogan of "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" in the college premises here today .
The main purpose of the programme was to educate the students regarding the need of saving the girl child from social unfairness and sick practices such as abortion and to give a push to the education of girls throughout the country and also to prevent gender-biases from the society.
Principal of the college , Dr. Nalini Pathania was the Chief Guest on the Occasion.
Dr. Nalini Pathania congratulated the Department of Political Science for conducting such a thought- provoking and burning event. She exhorted upon the need of awakening of our society regarding the gender sensitive issues and also of educating citizens against gender bias and improve the efficacy of welfare services for girls.
Earlier, Programme was formally welcomed by Prof. Swarna Devi, HOD Political Science. In her speech, she acquainted the students with the role, need for and importance of saving the girl child from social discrimination and to save the girl child in India by ensuring their safety as well as to stop the crime against girl child especially female foeticide and gender inequality. She acknowledged the students about the launch of the scheme, "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'' on 22 Jan.,2015 at Panipat, Haryana by PM Narendra Modi. After that, this day has been celebrated at the national level every year under different sub-titles.
Rashika Sharma, SHO, Women Police Station, Udhampur and Ms. Azra Parveen from Special Cell for Women were the guest of honour in the event. Ms. Rashika in her address to the students, focussed on the importance of proving proper education to the girl child for their growth and development.
Azra Parveen highlighted that so many social media scams are prevalent now a days against women in which they are being exploited by the people. So, she advised to use social media in a protective way and by keeping your privacy intact.
Advocate Sanjeet Bavouriya, a renowned personality and Advocate of Udhampur Judiciary, has been working on "WOMEN ISSUES" for quite a long time also addressed the students on the occasion. He focussed on the need of understanding the importance of saving girl child for saving the future of our nation. He also acknowledged the students regarding women' rights mentioned in the constitution.
