Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 20: Observing the Foundation Day for Nationalisation of Life Insurance Business in India, LIC employees across Jammu & Kashmir launched the campaign "Strong LIC for Stronger India." At an event held at the D.O. Cell Jammu, Com. Pawan Gupta, Divisional Secretary of the Northern Zone Insurance Employees' Association, Srinagar Division, highlighted the historical significance of January 19. On this day in 1956, the Government of India took the first step toward nationalizing life insurance by promulgating the Life Insurance (Emergency Provisions) Ordinance, paving the way for the creation of LIC. From its modest beginnings with 154 Indian insurers, 16 foreign insurers, and 75 Provident Fund Societies, LIC has grown exponentially. Today, it operates 2048 fully computerized branch offices, 113 divisional offices, and 8 zonal offices, serving over 40 crore customers. With an asset base exceeding Rs 55 lakh crore, LIC stands as the largest life insurance company globally in terms of policy count. Speakers praised LIC's role in nation-building through investments in infrastructure and social development, underscoring its contribution to India's growth and stability. It was resolved to advance the campaign through seminars, conventions, and engagements with media, agents, and policyholders. Other prominent speakers included Dinesh Kumar Sharma (Vice President), Raj Kumar, Priya Sharma, Kishore Lal, Harkesh Kumar Singh, and Dharminder Kumar. |
