DC Udhampur appeals people to support empowerment of girl child | | | Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Jan 25: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai today stressed the importance of empowerment of the girls through education and creation of ample opportunities for them to achieve excellence in life. Addressing audiences at a function organised by Happy Model Foundation to celebrate National Girl Child Day, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated all participants and emphasized the importance of generating awareness among the masses regarding the rights and empowerment of the girl child. She highlighted that the primary objective of celebrating this day is to eradicate social discrimination and exploitation faced by girls. She further stated that in today’s era, girls are excelling in every field and proving that they are equal to their male counterparts. Reflecting on the significance of girls' education, she remarked that education equips young girls with the necessary skills to become responsible citizens and enable them to raise their voices in society. The DC urged the participants to sensitize the public about grave consequences of female foeticide, stressing the need for collective efforts to ensure the empowerment of women through education and equal participation in all professions. Several other speakers also deliberated on the importance of saving the girl child and elaborated on the provisions of the PC&PNDT Act, which aims to prevent gender-biased sex selection. The DC lauded the efforts of the Happy Model Foundation for organizing such an impressive event and spreading awareness on this significant issue. The highlight of the event was the formal inauguration of the newly constructed Saina Nehwal Badminton Hall by the Deputy Commissioner as the chief guest. CEO Municipality Rajinder Digra, former councillors, prominent citizens, School Management Committee members, staff members and students were present. |
