Panun Kashmir slams Rouble Nagi's remarks, calls them "Consolidation of Genocide" | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 25: Panun Kashmir, has strongly condemned the recent remarks made by Rouble Nagi, Member of the National Commission for Minorities, during her press conference in Srinagar. In a scathing statement issued by Panun Kashmir General Secretary, Kuldeep Raina, the organization termed her remarks as an "insult to the genocide-stricken community" and an "attempt to consolidate the Genocide of Kashmiri Pandits." Kuldeep Raina minced no words in criticizing Ms. Nagi's assertion that the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley is a matter of "choice." "The exodus of Kashmiri Pandits was not a choice,it was forced upon us by the brutal Genocide and terrorism that plagued the Valley in 1990. To portray our return as a matter of choice trivializes the trauma, terror, and displacement that we have endured for over three decades," he said. Panun Kashmir lashed out at Ms. Nagi's claim that "there is no negative attitude among the people of Kashmir towards the migrants," labeling it as a gross misrepresentation of ground realities. Shri Raina questioned whether Ms. Nagi had engaged with the victims of targeted killings or assessed the continued glorification of terrorists and hate propaganda in sections of Kashmiri society. "Peace cannot be measured merely by a reduction in killings. True peace comes from justice, accountability, and trust-none of which have been addressed," he added. The organization also took strong exception to Ms. Nagi's suggestion that the events of 1990 should be "forgotten." Shri Raina called it an affront to the memory of genocide victims and warned that forgetting the past without justice would pave the way for history to repeat itself. "If the Holocaust cannot be forgotten, if Partition cannot be forgotten, then why should the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits be erased for convenience? Forgetting without justice is nothing but the erasure of truth and the consolidation of genocide," he said. Raina further criticized Ms. Nagi's attempt to dilute the targeted nature of the Kashmiri Pandit genocide by equating it with the violence experienced by other communities in Kashmir. "Equating our genocide with the general unrest in the Valley is an attempt to whitewash the systemic Genocide we suffered. It is a calculated move to undermine our unique tragedy and sideline our legitimate demands," he asserted. The statement also highlighted the failure of successive governments to ensure the safe and dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits. Shri Raina questioned whether any meaningful steps had been taken to dismantle the mindset of hate, provide secure settlements, or hold perpetrators accountable. "Without addressing these core issues, any talk of return is hollow and amounts to rubbing salt into our wounds," he said. Panun Kashmir reiterated its demand for the recognition of the Kashmiri Pandit genocide, enactment of Genocide bill and the establishment of a separate Homeland in Kashmir with Union Territory status, as per the Margdarshan Resolution of 1991. Shri Raina emphasized that only such a measure would ensure the safety, dignity, and survival of the Kashmiri Pandit community in their ancestral land. Raina called Ms. Nagi's remarks "a dangerous narrative aimed at normalizing the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits under the guise of reconciliation." Panun Kashmir urged the National Commission for Minorities to issue a clarification and demanded an immediate course correction in the discourse surrounding the displaced community.
