Early Times Report
SIDHRA, Jan 25: Government Degree College, Sidhra, marked National Voters' Day with a series of engaging activities aimed at promoting electoral literacy and encouraging active participation in the democratic process. The event, organized by the Electoral Literacy Club under the patronage of Principal Dr. G.S. Rakwal, featured a pledge-taking ceremony and a symposium competition.
The day began with a pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of India and ensure participation in every election, free from any external influences like religion or caste. Students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff took the pledge to emphasize the importance of voting in a free and fair election.
Following the pledge, a symposium competition was held on the topic "Nothing Like Voting, and I Vote for Sure," where students were encouraged to understand their voting rights. Prof. Meesha Bhagat, Convener of the Electoral Literacy Club, provided a brief introduction to the significance of National Voters' Day, marking the anniversary of the Election Commission of India's foundation. She highlighted the importance of young voters in the country's decision-making process.
The symposium featured students expressing their views on the Right to Vote and the political processes of the country. The judges for the event, Dr. Pooja Sharma (HOD, Dogri) and Mr. Deepak Kumar (PTI), evaluated the participants based on their relevance to the topic, expression, and confidence. Tayweeb Khan (B.A IV Sem), Priya Kumari (B.A VI Sem), Manharan (B.A VI Sem), and Usma Khan (B.A IV Sem) participated in the competition, with Manharan of B.A VI Sem being declared the winner.
The event concluded with remarks from Dr. Harpreet Kaur (HOD, Political Science), and was deemed a success thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Electoral Literacy Club members, who worked tirelessly to make the program impactful. The celebration aimed to inspire students to actively engage in the democratic process through voting.
