Sumit Khajuria elected president of Tawi Trekkers J&K | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 25: Sumit Khajuria, a seasoned mountaineer, skier, rafter, scuba diver, and sport climbing judge, was unanimously elected as the new President of Tawi Trekkers J&K during an election meeting held at the Press Club of Jammu. Sonam Sidharth was re-elected as General Secretary, while the outgoing President, Shawetica Khajuria, was nominated as the Working President. Sumit Khajuria, hailing from the second generation of Tawi Trekkers J&K, has led numerous successful mountaineering expeditions and significantly contributed to the success of Himalayan trekking programs and other adventure activities. His dedication and efficient organizing skills have been vital to the club's achievements. The meeting was attended by several dignitaries, including the club's Chairman Anil Goswami, Co-Chairman Sh. Zorawar Singh Jamwal, and Patron Rahul Sharma. The elections, overseen by club advisor Ram Khajuria, also resulted in the election of other office bearers: Arti Sharma (Sr. Vice President), Mridhu Padha and Seema (Vice Presidents), Amit Khajuria (Joint Secretary), and Shashi Kant (Treasurer). The newly elected executive members include international sport climber Shivani Charak and senior members from various regions. The club's veteran members, including Vivek Chauhan, were recognized for their ongoing contributions, and efforts were made to involve younger members, particularly women, in future activities. In his acceptance speech, Sumit Khajuria thanked the members for their trust and vowed to work with dedication to elevate the club to greater heights. |
