Early Times Report RS PURA, Feb 3: The Department of Environmental Sciences and Eco-Club of Government Degree College (GDC) R.S. Pura, under the aegis of IQAC, organized an educational trip to Gharana Wetland to mark World Wetlands Day. The event was held under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour, Principal, GDC R.S. Pura, who emphasized the role of youth in environmental conservation. Gharana Wetland, known for its rich biodiversity and migratory bird population, provided students with a firsthand learning experience about wetland ecosystems. During the visit, students observed various migratory birds, including bar-headed geese, northern pintails, and black-winged stilts, which travel long distances to seek refuge in the wetland. Dr. Sudesh Kumar, a bird expert, conducted an interactive session on the ecological importance of wetlands, highlighting their role in water purification, biodiversity conservation, and local livelihoods. The trip aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience, fostering a deeper understanding of habitat conservation and environmental stewardship. The visit concluded with students sharing their observations and discussing strategies for sustainable conservation practices. The initiative was led by Prof. Priya Darshini Sharma, Dr. Sudesh Kumar, Dr. Akrity Parihar, and the Eco-Club of the college. Faculty members Dr. Raj Kumari, Prof. Geetika Goswami, and Prof. Rajinder Singh also accompanied the students. The trip proved to be an enriching experience, reinforcing the college's commitment to environmental education and awareness. |
