Early Times Report RS PURA, Feb 5: The Women Development Cell, Department of English, and NSS Unit of Government Degree College (GDC) R.S. Pura jointly organized an awareness programme on gender inequality and female foeticide. The event, held in the college premises, was conducted under the esteemed patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour and the supervision of Dr. Neena Gupta Rohmetra, Convener of the Women Development Cell and Head of the Department of English. As part of the campaign, a short animated film highlighting issues related to gender equality and female foeticide was screened for students. The film underscored key aspects such as the importance of girl child education, job equality, challenging gender stereotypes, economic empowerment, leadership representation, and societal inequalities. Additionally, it emphasized the responsibilities of medical professionals in educating rural communities about the consequences of female foeticide. The screening witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 100 students, who engaged with the subject matter with keen interest. Faculty members present at the event included Dr. Chanchal Angral (NSS, PO), Prof. Shifali Abrol, Prof. Radhika Mahajan, Dr. Raj Jamwal, Dr. Kiran Pathania, Dr. Shivani Manchanda, Dr. Neelam Kumari, Prof. Jai Mala Thakur, and Dr. Savleen Kour. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour commended the organizing committee for their efforts and encouraged students to spread awareness within their families and communities. She emphasized the crucial role that young minds can play in transforming societal mindsets and promoting gender equality.
