Early Times Report

Udhampur, Feb 9: The Jammu Kashmir Teachers' Joint Action Committee (JKTJAC) held its monthly meeting at Udhampur under the leadership of UT President Vinod Sharma and District President Lekh Raj Parihar. Executive and apex body members from all eleven zones of the district participated.
Vinod Sharma raised various pressing issues affecting the teaching fraternity, particularly ReT teachers, and urged the government to address them. He called for the implementation of Govt Order No. 469 Edu of 2014 regarding the inclusion of the five-year ReT period for seniority benefits and transfers. He highlighted that the Hon’ble CAT has already ruled that ReTs, after regularization, are equivalent to general line teachers and should not face transfer restrictions.
Sharma also demanded the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme for employees appointed on or after 01.01.2010. He further raised concerns about pending Mid-Day Meal (MDM) dues, stating that teachers have been managing expenses from their own pockets, with funds released for only 2-3 months in 2024-25. He warned that if the pending dues (covering 7-8 months) are not released soon, teachers may be forced to halt MDM services.
Other key demands included:
• Regularization of ReTs who have completed five years.
• Conversion of RRETs to Teachers Grade II/III to ensure timely salaries.
• Another DPC (Departmental Promotion Committee) meeting for teachers’ promotion to masters.
• Conversion of headteacher posts into non-plan master posts.
• Release of time-barred arrears for teachers and masters.
• Parity in teachers’ grade pay with counterparts in other UTs.
• Earned leave benefits for teachers engaged in summer/winter camps.
• Filling up of vacant ZEO, Principal, and Headmaster posts in headless zones/schools.
District President Lekh Raj Parihar urged the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Udhampur to expedite the completion of teachers’ service records and the release of pending dues. He also demanded the release of carriage charges under MDM, which have been pending for years, making it difficult for teachers to transport rice and other essentials.
Several other members, including Sukesh Khajuria, Khazan Singh, Chain Singh, Ravinder Singh Rathore, Bhushan Khajuria, and others, also spoke on the occasion, supporting the demands.
