GDC Hiranagar conducts awareness workshop | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 11: Govt. Degree College, Hiranagar conducted an awareness workshop on Safer Internet Day as part of the global initiative to promote safer and more responsible use of digital technologies. The workshop aimed to educate participants on online safety, data privacy, and responsible digital behavior, empowering them to navigate the internet safely. The theme for this year was "Together for a Better Internet." The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Roopali Jamwal, Coordinator of the event who emphasized the significance of Safer Internet Day and the growing need for digital literacy. She explained common online threats, including:Cyberbullying, Phishing and Online Scams, Privacy Invasion and Identity Theft and Exposure to Harmful Content. A guest speaker, Prof. Amit Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications and a cybersecurity expert, shared valuable insights on how to detect online scams and secure personal information. He presented a real-life case study to illustrate how online scams occur, followed by an interactive group discussion. Prof. Amit Singh also guided participants with practical tips on staying safe online and elaborated on how to report cybercrime incidents. Real-life examples helped participants understand how to apply these safety measures in their daily digital interactions. An online safety quiz was conducted to reinforce learning and engage participants in a fun, interactive manner. Participants raised questions about specific online safety concerns, which were addressed by both the facilitator and the guest speaker. Dr. Pragya Khanna appreciated the team's efforts in organizing such an awareness programme at the college. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Bharat Bhushan, HoD, Department of Music.
