JAMMU, Feb 15: Government Degree College (GDC) Akhnoor, in collaboration with the Central Ground Water Board, North West Himalayan Region, Jammu, organized a One-Day Interaction Program on Groundwater Management and Conservation under the aegis of IQAC. The program, held under the guidance of Principal Dr. Romilla Malla Bhat, aimed to raise awareness about groundwater scarcity and the responsibility of citizens in its conservation. Sh. Angurala, Head of the Office, Central Ground Water Board, welcomed the participants and introduced the department’s role in groundwater management. Dr. Monika Malhotra, HoD English and IQAC Convener, emphasized the urgency of water conservation, highlighting the rapid depletion of water sources. Sh. K.S. Rawat, Scientist C, presented insights into hydrology and aquifers, while Mr. Gulshan Kumar, Geophysicist, discussed groundwater quality, the impact of chemical pollution, and safe water pump installations. Students from Chemistry, Zoology, Physics, English, and Commerce streams actively participated, expressing their ideas through a painting competition. The competition was judged by Dr. Seema and Dr. Nitasha, with prizes awarded to the best entries. Senior faculty members, including Dr. Deepika Gupta (HoD Chemistry), Prof. Neeru Dalla (HoD Zoology), Dr. Sandhya Rani (HoD Sanskrit), and Dr. Kanchan, also attended the event, reinforcing the importance of groundwater conservation. |
