Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Feb 15: In a major crackdown against bovine smuggling, the Udhampur District Police successfully foiled two smuggling attempts in separate incidents at Majalta and Chenani, rescuing a total of eight bovines. A police team from Police Station Majalta, led by the Station House Officer (SHO), intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK14K-5886 at Battal Naka Point during a routine vehicle checking drive. Upon inspection, five bovines were found crammed inside the vehicle, tied in a cruel manner, and being transported illegally without valid permission. The driver managed to flee the scene, abandoning the vehicle. All the rescued bovines have been shifted to a safer location. In this regard, an FIR No. 17/2025 under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Majalta, and further investigation is underway. In another case, a police team from Police Station Chenani, under the leadership of its SHO, intercepted a vehicle with registration number JK08L-8602. During the inspection, three bovines were found being illegally transported. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Nadeem Hussain, son of Fida Hussain, a resident of Jarai Kathua, was arrested on the spot. A case, FIR No. 19/2025, has been registered at Police Station Chenani, and investigations are ongoing.
