Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 17: In a continued effort to ensure road safety and reduce inconvenience to the public, the Traffic Police Rural Jammu has initiated a series of strict actions against motor vehicle violations. These include overloading, use of pressure horns, and tinted glasses/curtains. As part of the ongoing crackdown, a total of 232 challans have been issued for violations related to pressure horns, which not only contribute to noise pollution but also affect vulnerable groups such as young children and individuals suffering from ailments. In February alone, fines totaling Rs. 30.09 lakhs have been imposed on violators. The action was taken as part of a comprehensive strategy to maintain safe and orderly traffic in the region. A recent inspection by DTI Kathua, led by Inspector Kapil Manhas, revealed a sleeper bus (No. UP 81DT-1195) coming from Delhi to Jammu, which was found to be overloaded with 18 extra passengers. The bus, which exceeded its 32-passenger capacity, was also carrying passengers who were charged extra and had its seats modified to accommodate more people. Furthermore, the vehicle was found without the necessary documents, and its curtains violated safety norms. The bus was seized in accordance with the law. Passengers aboard the overloaded bus expressed their grievances over the inconvenience caused by the violation. To prevent such occurrences in the future, Traffic Police has directed all officers to closely monitor passenger vehicles and ensure that transporters and drivers adhere to the Motor Vehicle Act (MV Act). Strict legal action will be taken against those found violating the regulations.
