Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Feb 21: The Women Development and Empowerment Cell (WDEC) of Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur organized an informative awareness programme on the theme "The Rights of Transgenders and Their Empowerment" in the college campus. Akash Deep, Additional Special Mobile Magistrate, Udhampur was the keynote speaker. He shared insights on the legal rights of transgenders emphasizing on the Transgenders' Protection of Rights Act, 2019 and the challenges faced by the community. Prof. (Dr.) Nalini Pathania, Principal of the college, in her address stressed on the creation of harmony in the society by giving equal status to all genders and also urged the students to spread awareness about the rights of transgender individuals. Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Geetanjli Rajput, Convener, Women Development and Empowerment Cell. She motivated the students to contribute towards creating a humanistic society by treating transgender individuals as normal human beings. Dr. Shivani Suri Verma, Co-convener of the cell presented vote of thanks. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Kamaldeep Kaur and Prof. Simran Khajuria. The event aimed to spread awareness about transgender rights, promote empathy, and create an inclusive society.
