Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 21: On 21.02.2025 (Friday), an urgent meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu was called to hold discussion on the proposed amendments to The Advocates Act, 1961 by the Union Government at Dr. A.S. Anand Bar Library, High Court Complex, Jammu. The meeting was attended by number of Advocates who expressed their respective views during the discussion held in the meeting. The meeting was commenced by the President K. Nirmal Kotwal (Advocate) who explained the proposed amendments to The Advocates Act, 1961 by the Union Government to all the esteemed members of the Advisory Committee and thereafter, deliberations and discussions on the said issue took place and opinions of the members present in the meeting was sought. The majority members who were present in the meeting opposed the said proposed amendments in The Advocates Act, 1961 terming the same as unconstitutional, undemocratic, authoritative, dictatorial, which would undermine the independence of advocates and shall have tendency to dilute the Institution. In view of the same, it has been unanimously decided that Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu shall hold a protest against the proposed amendments to The Advocates Act, 1961 in order to show solidarity with Bar Council of India and other Bar Councils including All Bar Associations on *22.02.2025 (Saturday) at 12:00 P.M at District Court Complex, Jammu* Besides office bearers of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu i.e. K Nirmal Kotwal (President), S. Baldev Singh (Vice President), Pardeep Majotra (General Secretary), Anshu Mahajan (Joint Secretary), Rahul Aggarwal (Treasurer), the meeting was attended by P.S. Dutta (Sr. Advocate), M. K. Bhardwaj (Sr. Advocate), S. Kulwant Singh Johal (Sr. Advocate), D.K Khajuria, Rameshwar P. Sharma, V. Bhushan Gupta, Raghu Mehta, M.R Qureshi, Pawan Kumar Manni, Ravinder Sharma, C.S Gupta, P. C Sharma, C.M Sharma, Anil Sethi, S. Rupinder Singh, Anwar Choudhary, Ajay Abrol, Smt. Anshuja Tak, Smt. Rozina Afzal, Smt. Deepika Mahajan, Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed, S. Meharban Singh, Piyush Gupta, and other members attended the meeting. |
