Reshaping Lives | | | Women’s empowerment has long been a crucial aspect in Jammu and Kashmir’s socio-economic development. The self-employment schemes such as Tejaswini, Hausla, and other similar initiatives are playing a transformative role in this journey. These schemes provide financial support, training, and mentorship to women, enabling them to become self-reliant entrepreneurs. By fostering economic independence and confidence, they are reshaping the lives of countless women in Jammu and Kashmir where traditional gender roles have historically limited opportunities. One of the most significant hurdles women face in achieving self-reliance is financial dependency. For decades, limited access to credit and skill development programs has kept many women confined to unpaid labor or low-income jobs. However, self-employment schemes such as Tejaswini and Hausla are breaking these barriers by offering financial assistance, skill-building workshops, and market linkages. Under the Tejaswini scheme, young women aged 18 to 35 are encouraged to start their own businesses with financial assistance of up to Rs. 5 lakh. This not only provides capital to kickstart their ventures but also instills confidence in women entrepreneurs. Similarly, the Hausla scheme focuses on nurturing existing women-led enterprises by providing them with better market access, business mentoring, and financial literacy training. These schemes are not just about providing funds; they are about creating an ecosystem that supports women’s entrepreneurship in the long run. The empowerment of women is deeply linked to skill development. Many women, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, possess immense talent in handicrafts, food processing, tailoring, and other traditional skills. However, a lack of formal training and exposure has often kept their potential untapped. Self-employment schemes provide technical and business skills that enhance the productivity and marketability of these talents. These programs also promote digital literacy and e-commerce training, enabling women to reach wider markets beyond their local communities. Through partnerships with online platforms, women entrepreneurs can now sell their products across the country, thereby increasing their revenue streams and improving their standard of living. The impact of self-employment schemes extends beyond individual beneficiaries to entire communities. Women who become financially independent contribute to household income, improving their family’s access to healthcare, education, and overall well-being. They also inspire other women in their communities to pursue similar paths, fostering a ripple effect of empowerment. Moreover, by promoting gender inclusivity in economic activities, these schemes challenge deep-rooted societal norms that have traditionally restricted women to domestic roles. Empowered women gain a stronger voice in decision-making within their families and communities, gradually shifting perceptions about gender roles and equality. |
