Jammu, Mar 20: Dogra Law College convened its first Governing Body meeting after attaining autonomous status, marking a significant milestone in its academic evolution. The meeting commenced with a warm welcome by Th. Gulchain Singh Charak, Former Minister for Higher Education and Chairman, Dogra Educational Trust, who expressed his gratitude to the esteemed members for their presence and commitment to strengthening the institution’s academic and administrative framework. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in ensuring the smooth transition of the college into an autonomous institution. During the deliberations, Prof. Ashok Aima, Former Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, suggested the inclusion of renowned legal educationists from prestigious law universities in the Board of Studies of Dogra Law College to further enhance the institution’s academic standing. He also emphasized the need to introduce new programs and curricula aligned with evolving market demands, ensuring that students are well-equipped with contemporary legal knowledge and skills. Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu, congratulated the college on achieving autonomous status and highlighted the significance of internships and placements in reputed law firms and the corporate sector to enhance students’ professional exposure. The meeting focused on defining the role and functions of the Governing Body, with special attention given to the formation of various committees in accordance with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines. The members engaged in extensive discussions on introducing new academic programs to expand learning opportunities for students. Several key decisions were made, including the approval of nominations for the Academic Council, Board of Studies (BOS), and Finance Committee. Additionally, the proposed academic programs were approved for further evaluation and implementation to align with industry standards and legal advancements. To strengthen administrative efficiency, the Governing Body approved the formation of various college committees that will oversee academic and operational matters. Katal (Member Trustee, Dogra Educational Trust), Adv. Gambhir Dev Singh Charak (Member Trustee, Dogra Educational Trust), Dr Bela Thakur, Director Dogra Group of Colleges, Prof. Dharamveer Sharma (Dean, Dogra Group of Colleges), Dr. Gitika Sehgal (Coordinator, Dogra Educational Trust), Dr. Jay Prakash Srivastava (Principal, Dogra Law College), Ramnik Bali (Programme Facilitator, Dogra Group of Colleges), Dr. Komila Aggarwal (Programme Incharge, BA LL.B. 5 Years), and Dr. Aarti Gandotra (Programme Incharge, LL.B. 3 Years). The meeting concluded with the vote of thanks presented by Dr. Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust, acknowledging the valuable contributions of all members in shaping the future of Dogra Law College.
