VC SKUAST Jammu inaugurates annual workshop of KVKs

JAMMU, Mar 28: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu organized the Annual Workshop of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) to finalize the Action Plan for the year 2025-26. The workshop, aimed at strengthening extension services, farmer capacity building and research-extension linkages was inaugurated by Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Tripathi emphasized the critical role of KVKs in bridging the gap between research and farmers, ensuring technology transfer for improved agricultural productivity and income generation. He urged KVKs to enhance their outreach programs and work in close collaboration with farming communities.
The workshop featured detailed presentations by KVK Heads, outlining their strategies and objectives for the year 2025-26. Faculty members and experts provided technical insights to align these plans with the specific needs of farmers in Jammu.
Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Research discussed on strengthening research-extension-farmer linkages. He emphasized the need for integrating modern scientific advancements with traditional farming practices to maximize efficiency and sustainability.
Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension spoke on innovative extension approaches and the importance of capacity-building initiatives for farmers. He highlighted the role of KVKs in empowering rural communities through skill development, awareness programs and access to scientific knowledge.
The workshop witnessed active participation from Deans and Directors, including Dr. Rajinder Peshin, Dr. Sanjay Khar, Dr. Anil Kumar, Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dr. Sudhakar Dwivedi, Dr. Sanjay Guleria, Dr. Susheel Sharma and Dr. J.S. Soodan, who shared insights on recent advancements in agriculture and their implications for the region.
The event served as a platform for fostering collaboration among scientists, extension professionals and farmers, ensuring that the finalized Action Plan for 2025-26 addresses the evolving challenges and opportunities in the agricultural sector.
