Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 2: Tawi Trekkers J&K, the largest trekking club in Jammu & Kashmir, has announced an extensive adventure calendar for the year 2025-26, with a special focus on heritage treks and adventure picnics for school students. The announcement was made during an event at the Press Club of Jammu, where the club's Calendar of Activities was formally released by Ashwani Sharma, former MLA and Patron of the Club, along with other dignitaries. This year, Tawi Trekkers J&K plans to organize short treks to heritage sites in Jammu, including Mohore Garh, Dher Garh, Bhupner Garh-Mansar, Devi Pindian (near Katra), and Naina Devi (near Mantalai in Udhampur district). These treks aim to introduce students to the region's rich history while promoting adventure sports. According to Ram Khajuria, Advisor of Tawi Trekkers J&K, the club will conduct three major trekking expeditions in the Dhauladhar Range, Himachal Pradesh, including: Triund Trek (10,000 ft) - For junior members. Minkiani Pass Trek (14,500 ft) - For senior members. Dalhousie to Chamba Trek - Exclusively for senior citizens. Additionally, a Heritage Trekking Programme in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, will be organized for 200 students from October to December 2025. The club is also planning a prestigious 10-day high-altitude expedition in the Stok region of Leh, where only eight members will be selected to participate. A low-budget mountaineering expedition to Mun Peak in the Dhauladhar Range is also on the cards. With a mission to promote sport climbing, Tawi Trekkers J&K will conduct: Year-long coaching camps & monthly competitions, including for physically and visually challenged climbers. Union Territory-level women's sport climbing competition in July 2025 at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu. Open UT-level sport climbing competition in October 2025. The Himalayan Trekking Programme for school students during summer vacations is yet to be finalized, and the location will be announced soon. During the event, Prof. Lalit Magotra, Advisor of the Club and Padma Shri Awardee, was felicitated and garlanded for his recent achievement. Ashwani Sharma, in his address, praised the club's commitment to mountaineering and sport climbing, hoping that J&K will soon emerge as a strong contender in international competitions. The club was also lauded for its support of international climber Shivani Charak, who holds the distinction of being J&K's only female athlete to participate in the Asian Games in the past 77 years. The event concluded with a tea party hosted in honor of Prof. Lalit Magotra, and the function was ably anchored by Arti Sharma, Senior Vice President of the Club. |
