Early Times Report LADAKH, Apr 2: The MSME-Development Nucleus Cell, Ladakh, a field office of the Union Ministry of MSME, has initiated the implementation of a Common Facility Centre (CFC) for Apricot Processing under the Cluster Development Programme (CDP). This project aims to enhance the sustainability, competitiveness, and growth of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) by addressing challenges related to technology, quality, and market access. Ladakh, known for its unique horticultural produce, cultivates apricots across 900 hectares, producing over 5,000 metric tons annually. However, challenges like improper collection and drying methods affect the quality of apricots reaching global markets such as Singapore, Dubai, and the USA. The proposed CFC will provide facilities for drying apricots, extracting apricot oil, breaking seeds, and processing other horticultural produce. G. Velladurai, Joint Director of MSME-DFO Jammu, recently visited Khalsae in the proposed Sham district of Ladakh to discuss the project with local entrepreneurs. Land for the CFC, a key requirement, has been offered by Mr. Namgyal of Khalsae. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared with stakeholder inputs. Under the scheme, projects with costs up to Rs 10 crore require only 5% beneficiary contribution in Ladakh, with the remaining 95% covered as a grant. More details on the scheme can be accessed at MSME CDP Guidelines. |
